5 FOODS TO BOOST YOUR FITNESS

OOMPH KICKBOXING HIIT 5 FOODS TO BOOST YOUR FITNESS

Food fuels both your mind and body, so it’s important to make the right choices. Most people have heard several reasons why junk food isn’t the best choice even after an intense workout, but let’s talk about foods that help you become fitter and happier.

The five foods below have excellent nutrient content, antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals that can help you feel satisfied, recover well after an exercise, or even serve as a snack between meals so you can continue to treat your body like the temple that it is.

Bananas

Rich in nutrients such as potassium, vitamin B6, vitamin C, copper, and even magnesium, bananas are popular with fitness enthusiasts for good reason. Their pectins (a type of fiber) even help ensure your blood sugar levels are healthy. The fiber found in fruits and vegetables such as bananas is also known to improve your digestion and take better care of your gut health. Like other fruits and veggies, Bananas also contain antioxidants that can help decrease your risk of certain health conditions, such as heart disease. A few great ways to try them: add peanut butter to a few banana slices or keep them solo as a great to-go snack!

    Eggs

Who doesn’t love a delicious, healthy omelet or poached egg for brunch? Not only are eggs versatile and suitable for every culinary taste, but they’re also a great source of vitamin A, B12, D, and vitamin E, calcium, folate, iron, omega-3 fatty acids, and protein. To better gain their nutritional benefits, use as little oil as possible or boil and poach them to avoid any extra addition of fat. Though eggs contain some saturated fat and cholesterol, they’re perfectly safe to eat in moderation. Plus, their protein is a great way to recover from a challenging workout.

      Almonds

An excellent substitute for crunchy, salty snacks, almonds are a nutritional powerhouse that pack a punch. Almonds are rich in fiber, magnesium, vitamin E, and antioxidants. According to the Mayo Clinic, almonds are also great for your heart. They can diminish the likelihood of forming blood clots that lead to heart attacks or even strokes. If almonds aren’t your favorite, you can always try peanuts, cashews, macadamia, Brazil nuts, or any of the many nuts nature has to offer. Though it’s best to eat almonds and other nuts in their original form, almond milk and butter are also great choices as long as they are low in added salt and sugar.

        Carrots

All fruits and vegetables offer great nutritional value, but carrots are one of the few that are this portable! A great source of vitamins A, C and D, carrots have antioxidants that can protect your heart as well. They also contain a nutrient called beta-carotene, which has been shown to reduce certain cancers’ risk. Did we mention they’re also great for your eye health? Best of all, you can eat them raw, roasted, baked, stir-fried, in salads, alone, or with delicious dips such as hummus.

          Ezekiel bread

If you’ve walked past the bread aisle at the grocery store, you’ve probably seen this mysterious bread and wondered what the big deal is. Ezequiel bread is special because it’s made with legumes and whole grains that have begun to sprout. It has zero added sugar and sprouting legumes and grains also add nutrients to the bread. This bread contains healthy carbohydrates and makes a great alternative to white bread for your morning toast or lunch sandwich. It does contain gluten, but that should be no problem if you have no health or diet restrictions. Try implementing these workout boosters into your diet today!
