SELF LOVE TIPS

OOMPH Kickboxing Fitness App Blog Tips On How To Self Love

"How you love yourself is how you teach others to love"

Self love doesn't come naturally to many of us, which makes it even more important to focus on! ❤️ By implementing these 6 self love hacks you'll be your own guru, and can spread that love to others. 🙌

Keep a Journal

Putting your thoughts down on paper is a simple yet effective way to relieve yourself of an overactive mind. You may also choose to journal about the things you’re grateful for. You’d be surprised at how much practicing gratitude can relieve stress and improve self-love.

Forgive Yourself for Mistakes

Treat yourself the way you would treat a close friend. If your best friend made a mistake, would you berate them and punish them over and over? Of course not. So why would we treat ourselves that way?

Forgiveness is a process and even when giving it to others, it can be hard. But, even more often, we forget to forgive ourselves. Doing so is the ultimate act of self-love.

Learn to Say No

Set boundaries and stick to them. Perhaps you need to limit phone calls with an overbearing parent. When you’re feeling low, say no to happy hour with friends. When setting boundaries, make sure they’re clear and communicated. Then, the trick is sticking to them.

When you learn to say no and set boundaries, you’re communicating to yourself that you have needs that deserve to be respected.

Take Care of Yourself

Self-care sometimes gets confused with indulgence. But, properly caring for yourself actually means focusing on what you need rather than what you want.

You want cheesecake, but you’ll be taking better care of yourself if you have a piece of dark chocolate for dessert instead. You want to binge Netflix after work but you’ll actually feel way better if you do a quick 30-minute workout instead.

You get the idea. Focusing on what you need is a stronger act of self-love.

Challenge Your Thoughts

We are a result of the stories we tell ourselves. However, not every thought we have about ourselves is true. Challenge your thoughts, since most of them are irrational and could use some reframing.

For example, you might be telling yourself you’re lazy for sleeping in on a Saturday. Reframe this thought by, instead, telling yourself that rest is important.

Avoid Comparison

Sometimes, that simply means getting off social media. Recognize that most of what people present to the outside world is a highlight reel. No one is perfect and everyone has bad days. Avoid comparing your life to someone else’s and focus on gratitude for what you do have.

Celebrate Small Wins

We tend to overvalue our failures, no matter how small while we undervalue our wins, no matter how large. Try flipping the script and celebrate the small wins while learning from our bigger failures.

When times are tough, simply getting out of bed is a huge accomplishment. Reaching a milestone at work or settling an argument with a spouse in a loving way can also count as small wins.

Self-love is easier said than done. It takes time and it won’t always come naturally. Remember to be gentle with yourself as you move forward and you’ll have healthy self-love habits before you know it.
